Day 15

image

So I’ve counted, it’s now officially 30 days to end of exam, so for the next 30 days,I’ll post a post everyday.Llife is relatively repetitive lately. Stress level have been rising and I am spending most of my waking moment in the library revising and studying.

Today during the study session, I freaked out. I got really nervous and I couldn’t concentrate on anything at all and I got more stressed outta I know I am suppose to study….I am still struggling between procrastinating and forcing myself to focus, but im still fighting heard!!!So fingers crossed!!!^^

Oh yeah, the quote I got today is:” when you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place.”

Asia style Chicken Rice

Food-cam Whole 1

So I tried to cook chicken rice today…sigh…chicken was…okay I guess, but the rice wasn’t very good. ..Emo…

I found this recipe online and decided to modify it a little as I only have half a chicken and the recipe was for a whole chicken. The chicken turn out quite juicy and I was happy about it since it’s my first attempt and everything, but the sad part is…the rice was much more tasteless that what I had imagined it would be. I did not try use the same method from the recipe but I tried somethings that my mum use to do, and the flavour was too mild. I suspect I had added too much water to the broth while I was cooking it and maybe next time I should try it with less water…

well…Ah ku and Hui hui came over for dinner, and after that we had a small chat before Hui2 left…nice simple gathering^^

Steam Chicken!!^^

December 10, 2012 Leave a comment

Well, I got my first X’mas present of the year today!!^^, by MAIL…opp, i just realised I din get a picture of it but it now lies nicely on my shelf next to my X’mas card I got on Sunday^^. So happy, just a shout out to a specific somebody, shame on you, where is my present?*angry face +voice*…*pout*><

Today I had a simple dinner. I was so excited to use my mini stand to steam some dish.^^, cause I got home early today, I spend sometime to do a proper marinating of my chicken and let my dried Chinese mushroom to soak “naturally” (as in not putting it in hot water and trying to break it into pieces to speed up the whole process).

so, thsi is how I did it:

To marinate (I used a chicken leg chopped into 6 pieces):
2tsp of salt, few pinch of white pepper, 1/2  tbsp of light soya sauce and topped it up with 1tsp of sesame oil and 1tsp of vinegar. I left it for  about 1 hour.

To prepare:
( items I used: half a carrot, 1 chinese mushroom(dry), 4 dried red dates, 2 big piece of chinese leaves)
1. I first layered the base of the bowl with the stalk of the chinese leaves ( cut into pieces)
2. In goes the marinated chicken on top
3. then the mushroom pieces around it near the side, and later the carrot in the middle
4. Lastly I covered it with leaves of the chinese leaves

To steam:
well, I heat it first on full heat, then simmer for about 20 minutes. ^^…

Yum Yum! Easy and Healthy

Yum Yum! Easy and Healthy

I liked it, it was juicy and the natural chicken flavour was not lost. Although I left some of the chicken skin in the dish, it was just right and not too greasy. Oh, and I love it when all the other vegetable had soaked up the flavour of the dish!!!YUM YUM…^^..well, most of all, I’m happy my hair doesn’t stink because if I had fried it, it would have stink-ed up the whole room^^

Sunday Dinner

December 9, 2012 Leave a comment

Did my fortnightly grocery shopping with Tay today…sadly, felt light-headed while I was in Sainsbury. That was rare for I was always very very excited when I’m there…well, we got ourselves some bargain and I managed to get ingredients for my chicken rice (^^yeah yeah!!), my bean sprout dish , and some cheap meat for my dinner..^. I was a bit shy when I went to the counter bc most of the food I buy is Sainsbury brand (cause it’s really cheap, and it’s )..well, but one day if I am free , maybe I should compare the price and taste for the regular brands and Sainsbury brands.

I was wondering around the herb section and I saw a very interesting herb called Piri-Piri. Well, since there was the 3 for 2 offer, I got it and tried out with my “going-to-expire” meat..and it turned out quite nice. Tay n I tried to grill it, and we realised that we have been using the grill wrongly all these times…You HAVE to leave the door OPEN!! Haha, it was quite funny seeing Tay trying to find a way to hold the door open minimally cz our kitchen is not exactly the biggest kitchen you can get^^…

Recipe:
~ To marinate
1. Meat (doesn’t matter what it is) (£1.69)
2. lemon juice (£0.30 each)
3. some salt and blak pepper to your liking
4. olive oil
5. Dark soy- sauce
6. *Piri- Piri herb* (£1.69)

(and I added a tablespoon of light soy-sauce , and extra pinch of salt and pepper and extra oil when i was about to grill it)

Looks nice doesn't it??^^

So this is a dish causing less than £2.50 pound for 2 , the rest of the lemon went into the bean sprout …

Spicy Bean sprout...I like this better^^

It was great with rice and with a Disney tinkle bell movie..(Did you know the Author of Peterpan gave the copyright to a Hospital in London so each time they make a Tinkle Bell movie, they have to have their permission?? Hmm..what a smart idea… I guess this is good for hospital funding^^)

Merry X’mas^^

December 8, 2012 Leave a comment

It’s been almost 6 months since I last write. Don’t know if I was too busy, too upset, or I was just too lost in my way…Things haven’t been going exactly my way and I am getting more and more lost in the busy life of mine. BUT…December is such a wonderful month that I CANNOT miss this happy time and I must write to wish everyone MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I went to Prece’s house yesterday for a “Western-style” Christmas dinner, which according to her:
1. Roast turkey (we subbed that with chicken)
2. Roast Chicken
3. Pig in Blanket
4. Roast bean sprout
5. Roast carrot and Parsnip (hope I got the later correct, been trying to remember the name the whole night)
ALL THESE IS A MUST!!!

It was a NICE AND EXCELLENT DINNER!!! (YUM YUM YUM!!)

I went a little earlier to help Prece with her food, but I din’t really do much as she had most of the food prepared and ready to be cook when I got there. But there was a problem. We had more people and food than we have utensils and cookware. We had to plan the time to put the stuffs into the oven, but Tay was caught up in the train from Fareham so we couldn’t really estimate the time properly. When we hv finally decided to put all the “TO-Be-Roasted” vegetable into the oven, there potatoes and the chicken had occupied most of the space and the trays are all used up.

We came up with a brilliant idea….*Ding*…wait…Prece came up with a brilliant idea.. *Ding*..and we all agreed. WE..(btw, the WE have increased from Prece and I to Prece, Charles and I at this time) threw the carrots and parsnips(??) into the rice cooker and boiled it halfway before seasoning it and put it into the oven..which worked out quite well..And Tay finally arrived with Hui Hui^^..

So the Menu of the day:

Appetiser:
~ Boiled green pea in Mint sauce (only during the preparation part..muahahah)
~ Turkish something..something…Lava…something (Made by Prece to keep your mouth watering for more!!)

Mains:
~ Roasted stuffed- Chicken
~ Roasted pig in Blankets with deep fry mushroom with garlic
~ Roasted Vegetables with mini yorkshire pudding

Drinks:
~ Sparkling Juice
~ Mulled Wine ( OMG..NICE NICE NICE..)
~ Pepsi Max

Desert:
~ Triple Choc cheese cake (Sponsored by dear Azery..who finally decide to join us during desert time)

Back to life

March 19, 2012 1 comment

Yoohoo…I’m back to my dear dear Southampton General Hospital again…after near 3 months of slacking n being lazy n sit around kinda attachment…I’m back to this ward based clinical attachment again…surprisingly..I’m actually kinda excited and looking forward to it at the same time feeling kinda lazy and…”awwww…*sob sob*…n more hols” kind of emotions.

Well… I think I can officially claim my 365 project an unsuccessful one but I will start it again !!!! This time…target is 180…. Muahahaha…don’t be too ambitious , eh?

Today had been great…not so much about my patient that I was assigned too that happened to be in a restricted ward due to infectious disease, and the fact that the second patient do not have much signs and symptoms, but yeah, it’s still quite nice. I mean, I got to see the faces of beloved batch mates that I haven’t seen in a while, managed to wake up early and on time( was worrying bout it whole night as I hadn’t really practice the sleep early- wake early cycle for the past one week, and I even dreamt about calculating the wake up time and bus time and even my sis popped up in it to fight for my eye liner, n my dad appeared too to fetch me to SGH in the dream….hmm…weird eh?)

Sigh…the only problem is my supervisor for my research project next year have not reply me, and the CAMHs department is yet to reply my email…SIGH!!!…

But yeah, sinc dim on the way home now…I’ll just enjoy the sun..and suffer tomolo…T.T…

Day 118

It snowed last night..it wasn’t the kind of heavy snow that would allow you to make snow man or play snow ball fights, but.. it was the first time that I experience walking on snow…it wasn;t ice as it wasn’t hard enough, but it definitely was an unmistakable layer…^^

Day 61

Self Portrait

Been feeling a bit low lately and Stressed…

I was trying to figure out why was I down when I don’t see any reason to it, and after talking to Tay, I realised, it was because, there is too much restriction here, restricting me from being myself.

I am a person who loves freedom and enjoy doing what I like to do ( of course, I do think before I act)…yet, that is not the case here. When I was in IMU, I had a limited amount of allowance too, but then, things there were way cheaper, and as it was close to KK, I was able to get most of my stuff from home or get it during my mum ‘s visits. In IMU, we had 2 hours lecture a day, and the next 22 hours is scheduled according to our preference and own liking, a. K. a. freedom. In IMU, the park was nearby, there is a swimming pool in Vista, there is gym in the school, university was less than 5 minutes walk from home, etc etc….

Yet here, I am restricted in Shopping, I have only 6 hours to myself which includes dinner, studying, bathing and procrastination. The rest of the time are well planned for lectures and clinical session, even my sleep time and wake up time is calculated to make sure I have a minimum of 5 hour sleep a day…school is > 15 minutes walk away, it’s cold here, I have to pay £3 per entry to play badminton, and to use the gym and swimming pool I have to pay £128 to become and gym member, and don’t even get my started on food and friends and family…><…

But, I am ok now…just felt like writing this as I am surprised that I did not notice this, I knew I wasn’t coping well and I knew there was something holding me back, but I haven’t been able to pin point it, yet, it’s such a simple reason, restriction…

^^…well, now that I know the cause, hopefully I can solve them soon as symptomatic treatment is no cure.^^

365 Project: Day 60

December 6, 2011 2 comments

Day 60

Feels like my knowledge have fallen out of it’s frame…><…still there, but makes no sense…><

My first real interview with Patient with Mental Illnes… it was different. My history taking skill shave always been all around the place, and messy, but this…

My lady wasn’t nasty, in fact, my partner and I had gotten a really cheerful and outspoken lady, but it was different in the sence that when we heard her side of story, we immediately took pity and felt sorry for her, and when we talked to the staff, we realise, half of the stuff she told us was real to her, but  not in reality..and apparently there is a specific word to describe it…but..T.T…I don’t remember it now~~

Tay and Naj ( one of his closer friend) was initially scheduled in a different place for this session but due to some reason, both our group combined, and we went to the same rest home. However, he got a lady with a more severe dementia and they had a hard time asking her question as the lady (90 ++ in age) though she was in her late teens and early twenties…

Hmm…different~
